This 1/4 scale bust was sculpted by Andy Bergholtz. With the slightly rough surface of this piece, I thought it would be interesting to paint it in some kind of stylized technique. So, I decided to paint this one up to look like one of Basil Gogos’ “Famous Monsters” magazine cover paintings. With all the vibrant colors, and shadows, it was a challenge to paint. But I really like how it turned out, and hope to do a few more like this one in the future!
To display this piece, I took the print that I bought from Basil and scanned it. Then I printed the art at the size of the bust, so that I could cut out the monster and substitute my paint-up. I then created a fake background to finish it off.
